  1. What is SHellium?

  2. SHellium is a FREE service that provides users access to shell accounts

  3. I heard this shell is for hackers is that true?

SHellium does not promote illegal activity such as "black hat" hacking and cracking, but ethical hackers are welcomed. In the unix world you are considered a hacker if you modify code or scripts to serve a legitimate purpose. Some call these guy "white hat" hackers; if you ever have modified something to fit your needs, it is considered a hack. We allow the world access to our shell with very few questions asked. Vulnerability scans and background processes can be run on SHellium free of charge. Some may see this as hacking but we allow freedom of expression as long as it is within the limits of the law.

  4. Why can't I login to the shell?

Becasue you haven't come into the #shellium on freenode to get your shell account activated. Registering gets you access to the site and shell but we like to speak with your shortly before we give you full access to our shell.

  5. Why don't you charge like all the others services online?

SHellium's motto is Free Shells to All; this means that we believe in aiding our fellow shell users whether they are using Window, Linux or Mac OS. The best way for users to learn is to offer them a service at no cost, so they can learn at their leisure. We believe that by utilizing our services...our users will give back to the community in some way in the future by participating in Open Source, GNU projects like this one.

  6. Did SHellium get hacked in June of 2008?

No SHellium did not get hacked, but we will admit it to everyone if we do get hacked and we'll give all the details of how it got done. There are many attempts at root access and many users get thier accounts terminated for doing things against our Terms of Service.

  7. Where is the free bnc?

The bnc is everywhere guys, we offer ZNC, psybnc and soon sbc for our users to log into without the hassle of building complex programs and crazy configurations. We run bouncers on several ports, you'll have to read our wiki or ask in #shellium on irc.freenode.net. to find out. Psybnc is running on port 8000(SSL ONLY) and we allow member to connect to it from anywhere they choose. You do not have to be logged into the shell to access our bouncer.

  8. Why can't I connect to irc via port 6667?

This should no longer be an issue for our users, since we moved to another datacenter Port 6667 is filtered going by the ISP, but you can easily choose ANY other port and the irc network of your choice will connect. Trust us we do it all the time. Many choose port 8000 instead while adding servers to SHellium's bouncer or connecting via the command line to an irc channel.

  9. I heard that this system is administered by super heros and movie stars...is that true?

Yes that is very true indeed; Superman, James Bond, and Captain Crunch keep the system going 24/7. Chuck Norris and Remo Williams were on the team, but they fought too much in ther server room...so we had to let them go.

  10. Why is the FAQ so short

There isn't much else to say but sign up and login to the shell...see you on irc.freenode.net at #shellium
